The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 92-72 by host University of Rochester in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, February 18, in Rochester, NY.
The Violets (10-13, 3-10 UAA) were plagued by turnovers in their fifth-straight loss as Rochester (16-8, 7-6 UAA). NYU committed 22 turnovers and allowed 39 points off those turnovers.
Rochester led 50-36 at halftime, even though the Violets went into the locker room shooting 7-for-11 (63.6%) from three-point range. Jacob Wittig, the Yellowjackets' point guard, made all seven of his field goal attempts in the opening half and had 18 points after 20 minutes.
In the second half, NYU quickly cut its deficit to 10 on
Ethan Feldman's third three-pointer of the afternoon. But, Rochester answered with a 14-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 69-50 lead with just more than 10 minutes to play.
The Violets cut into the margin once more, getting as close as 11 points. But, another late run from the Yellowjackets increased the lead to as many as 21 in the final minutes.
Feldman finished with 15 points and was NYU's leading scorer for the fifth-straight game and 11th time this season.
Wittig led the Yellowjackets with a career-high 26 points, while Patrick Benka chipped in with a career-high 17 off the bench.

Jimmy Martinelli recorded a double-double for the Violets, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Ross Udine scored 14 points and was four-of-five from long range. The senior also finished with a game-high-tying eight assists.

- The Violets finished the game 12-for-23 (52.2%) from three-point range.
NYU returns to action on Saturday, February 24, when it travels to Waltham, MA, to take on Brandeis in its season finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
