The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 96-85 by host Emory University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 16, in Atlanta, GA.
Friday's game against seventh-ranked Emory (19-4, 10-2) was the second-straight against a top-10 team for NYU (10-12, 3-9) as the Violets were defeated by #2 Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday.
Jule Brown scored the Violets' first 10 points of the game on Friday and NYU led until a Roman Williams three-pointer with 13:22 to play in the first half put the hosts ahead 17-16. From there, it was all Emory as the Eagles went on a 15-4 run in under five minutes to go ahead by 12 and break the game open.
Emory shot 51.4% (18-for-35) in the first half, including 50.0 (9-for-18) from deep en route to a 14-point (50-36) halftime lead. Williams finished the first half with 17 of the Eagles' 50 points.
The Violets opened the second half on a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to eight, but Emory answered with eight straight of its own to build the lead back to 18.
NYU once again cut the lead to single digits with just under seven minutes to play, but it would never get any closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Offensively, the Violets shot the ball well, finishing the game over 50.0 from the field (35-of-66; 53.0%) and exactly 50.0% from deep (8-for-16). Four NYU players finished in double figures, led by
Ethan Feldman (game-high 24 points) and Brown (20 points).
Williams finished with 21 points to lead Emory, while Gebereal Baitey scored 20.
