Men's Basketball Defeated by #2 WashU

Lone Senior Udine Honored Pre-Game

The New York University men's basketball team was defeated by Washington University in St. Louis 99-70 on Sunday, February 11, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

The Bears (20-2,11-0), ranked #2 in the nation by D3hoops.com, scored the first 12 points of the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest and led the entire way en route to their 12th-consecutive victory.

The Violets (10-11, 3-8) have now lost three straight.

It was the last home game of the 2017-18 season for NYU, and the team's lone senior, Ross Udine, was honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Washington led by as many as 26 points in the first half, shooting a remarkable 21-for-33 (63.6%) from the field over the first 20 minutes. But, the Violets were able to cut their deficit to 18 points, 52-34, at the intermission, with Udine contributing 15 points and three assists.

NYU scored the first six points of the second half and pulled within 12, but could not get any closer the rest of the way.

Ethan Feldman led the Violets with 19 points.

Udine did not score in the second half, but did add five more assists.

NOTABLES:

- Jimmy Martinelli also scored in double figures (13 points) for NYU.

- Ted Georgiadis finished with a team-high six rebounds.

- The Bears' Andrew Sanders led all scorers with 23 points.

The Violets return to action on Friday, February 16, when they travel to Atlanta, GA, to take on another ranked University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent, Emory University. Tip-off against the #13 Eagles is slated for 8pm.
