The New York University baseball team was defeated 15-4 in seven innings by Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, April 9, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
The game was the finale of a four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) series between the Violets (12-7, 1-3 UAA) and the Spartans (15-12, 9-3 UAA).
Case Western led wire-to-wire as it scored a pair of runs in the first inning and never looked back.
After NYU plated two runs in the fourth inning to make the score 5-3, the visitors scored seven times in the top of the fifth to break the game open.
"As quick as these games happen, you need to forget about them even quicker," said NYU Head Coach
Doug Kimbler.
Chad Johnstone started on the mound for NYU and gave up three earned runs over three innings of work. Nine different Violets came out of the bullpen to throw the final four innings of the afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Ryan McLaughlin and
Colman Hendershot each had a pair of hits to lead NYU, while six other Violets recorded one hit.
-
Jack Brouwer, who was making his second career start, finished 1-for-2 with a team-best two RBIs.
-
Will Jauss pitched a perfect seventh inning for NYU and recorded one strikeout.
- Seniors
Christopher Ma and
Jarret Weiss were honored before the contest as part of the squad's Senior Day celebration.
"This game proves that we still need to be working hard to improve," added Kimbler. "We have four more UAA games next weekend and we need to be ready to compete each time out."
NYU will return to action on Friday, April 14, when it hosts Brandeis University at 3pm back at MCU Park. The Violets and Judges will also play a doubleheader on Saturday before wrapping up the four-game series on Sunday.
