Baseball Splits DH Against Case Western

Violets Lose Game One 2-1, WIn Game Two 13-9

The New York University baseball team split a doubleheader against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, April 8, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

The Violets (12-6) hosted games two and three of a four-game, three-day series against the Spartans (14-12), NYU's first-ever University Athletic Association (UAA) home contests. Case Western took game one 2-1 before NYU came back to win the second game 13-9.

Game one remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Josh Neal singled up the middle to drive in Rocco Maue to give Case Western a 1-0 lead. Jacob Kucia doubled the Spartan lead in the sixth by scoring on a Matthew Wells wild pitch.

Jack Elias singled home Adrian Spitz in the ninth inning to make the Spartans sweat, but NYU couldn't put any more runs across the plate and ultimately dropped the game 2-1.

NYU started game two strongly with a three-run first inning, powered by RBI singles from Spitz and Ryan McLaughlin. The Violets led 4-1 through three innings, but Alex Capetillo hit a grand slam in the fourth to put CWRU ahead 6-4.

The Violets had dragged the score back to 6-6 before Colman Hendershot's three-run home run capped a four-run seventh to put NYU ahead 10-6, a lead which they would not relinquish as the Violets cruised to a 13-9 victory.

The win was NYU's first UAA home victory in program history.
