The New York University men's volleyball team defeated Endicott College on Friday, April 7, in Beverly, MA.
The Violets (15-9), who were ranked #9 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, topped the Gulls (18-9) in five sets (19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-9) to win their third-straight match and fifth of their last six.
"It was a really good come-from-behind performance by the squad tonight," said NYU Head Coach Jose Pina. "Once we made some adjustments we were able to take control of the match."
NYU quickly fell behind two sets to none, dropping sets one and two 25-19 and 25-20, respectively.
"We started slowly," explained Pina. "We missed some key serves early and Endicott played inspired those first two games which put us in a deep hole."
The Violets trailed 9-7 in the third set and it looked like it would be a quick defeat, before NYU stormed back to take the set 25-22. NYU also trailed in the fourth set, 18-16, before coming back again to win 25-23.
With all the momentum in their favor, the Violets closed out the match 15-9 in the fifth set to complete the comeback victory.
"This was an important win as we strive to keep alive the possibility of an at-large bid into the upcoming NCAA Tournament if we do not come out victorious at the UVC (United Volleyball Conference) Tournament next weekend," added Pina.
