The New York University women's basketball team struggled offensively and fell to host Brooklyn College, 55-46, on Tuesday, December 5, at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn.
NYU (4-4) shot just 25.4% (17-for-67) from the field in the loss and did not score a field goal in the fourth quarter as Brooklyn (5-1) came from behind to defeat the Violets.
The Violets ended the third a quarter on a 13-0 run to turn a 41-29 deficit into a 42-41 lead after 30 minutes. It marked the first time the visitors were in front since midway through the first quarter as the Bulldogs led 12-7 after 10 minutes of play and 26-20 at halftime. The 13 unanswered points were spear-headed by a pair of three-pointers from
Gabby Heinsinger and five points from
Kayla Patterson.
Brooklyn scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to go ahead by six and never looked back en route to the nine-point victory..
Taylor George, who connected on all six of her field goal attempts and all three of her free throw attempts, led all scorers with 18 points.
Patterson was NYU's top scorer with 12 points and was joined in double figures by
Kaitlyn Read, who added 11.
NOTABLES:
- Other than Heinsinger, who was 3-for-7 from three-point range, the Violets shot 2-for-23 (8.7%) from deep. Brooklyn finished the game 6-for-13 (46.2%) from three-point range.
- Patterson played a career high 35 minutes and grabbed 16 boards to tie her career high, which came last season against Carnegie Mellon University. Eight of her rebounds came on the offensive glass as the Violets finished the game with 21 offensive boards.
- Read dished out a game-high seven assists and also took down six rebounds.
NYU will look to get back in the win column when they take on Hunter College in their third-straight road game next Tuesday, December 12. Tip-off at the Sportsplex is slated for 5pm.
