Women's Basketball Gets Back in Win Column

Patterson's Double-Double Leads NYU to Win at W&L

The New York University women's basketball team traveled south to Lexington, VA, and picked up a 77-53 road victory at Washington & Lee University on Saturday, December 2.

Kayla Patterson scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Violets get back over .500 (4-3) on the season. The Generals' record now stands at 4-2.

The first 20 minutes of the contest were tight as NYU led by just four, 36-32, at halftime. Neither squad led by more than five in a first half which featured seven ties and four lead changes.

The Violets took the game over with a 10-0 run early in the second half to go ahead by 15 and never looked back. Overall, NYU outscored W&L 22-7 in the third quarter and led by 19 heading into the fourth.

"We did some good things in the first half, but in the second half we really changed the tempo with our defense," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "Our press was more of a factor and we were able to use it to our advantage."

Patterson was joined in double figures by Kaitlyn Read (12 points), Annie Barrett (12 points) and Becky Pund (10 points).

W&L's Katie Popp scored 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting to lead all scorers in the contest.

Inside the Box Score:

- Patterson's double-double was her second of the season and fourth of her career.

- Barrett's 12 points came on four three-pointers. The sophomore was 4-for-6 from deep and dished out five assists without committing a turnover.

"Annie is a prototypical, facilitating point guard," added Hall-Gregory. "She knows her job, brings a high basketball IQ and her teammates really trust her. The fact that she is a great shooter is such a bonus."

- Read tallied a game-high seven assists.

- Cassidy Fontana scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory.

NYU will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday when it travels to Brooklyn College. Tip-off is slated for 5pm at the West Quad Center.
