The New York University men's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College, 2-1, in its season opener on Thursday, September 1, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
NYU (1-0) dominated the first half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. The first goal came on a free kick just outside the top of the box from
Tristan Medios-Simon. The junior's tally was followed two minutes later when senior captain
Petter Aasa took advantage of a Bulldog turnover and found the back of the net to double the NYU lead.
The Violets continued to control play in the second half until Brooklyn scored its first goal in the 69th minute. The Bulldogs only tally of the game was scored on a rebound by Valentyn Kharko.
"It's always great to get that first win under your belt," said NYU Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "There are definitely some areas we need to improve on, but a win is a win."
Highlights:
-
Lucas Doucette stopped four shots to earn his first victory of the season.
- The Violets doubled Brooklyn in the shot category, outshooting the Bulldogs 20-10.
