Women's Basketball Wins at NYU Tip-Off Classic

Harioka Leads Violets with 17 Points

The New York University women's basketball team defeated local-rival Baruch College 75-43 on the opening day of the NYU Tip-Off Classic at the Hunter College Sportsplex on Saturday, November 19.

NYU improved to 2-0 this season, while the Bearcats dropped to 0-2.

The Violets led 14-11 after the opening quarter, but broke the game open during a second quarter in which they ourscored their opponents 24-10 to take a 35-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

NYU put the game away for good in the third quarter and led by 26 through three.

The Violets forced 29 turnovers in the contest.

"For us, every game our motive is to overwhelm and out-run teams, and we did that tonight," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "I felt like Baruch came in looking to play in the half court, and we never allowed them to do that."

Amy Harioka led the Violets with a team-best 17 points. Kayla Patterson chipped in with 10 points for the second-straight game.

"I'm trying to give everyone the confidence to shoot and keep shooting," added Hall-Gregory. "Amy missed a few shots in the first half, but continued to shoot and it worked out for us."
