Kaitlyn Read scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to help lead the New York University women's basketball team to a 79-68 victory over visiting UMass-Boston on Sunday, November 20, at the Hunter Sportsplex in Manhattan. The contest was the final game of the NYU Tip-off Classic and the Violets are now 27-1 in 14 years of hosting the event.
NYU improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Beacons dropped to 1-2.
"We showed spurts of greatness today," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall Gregory. "We're playing a fun brand of basketball. We have some great athletes that play hard and are very team-oriented."
The Violets led 52-51 through three frames before Read took the game over in the fourth quarter. In addition to her 18 points, the senior captain finished with nine rebounds, six steals and three assists in 21 minutes of action.
"Kaitlyn's such a winner," added Hall-Gregory. "She has the ability to turn it on at both ends of the court and is dangerous in a variety of ways. She's such a great competitor and wants to win every possesion."
Read and teammate
Lauren Brown (12 points, eight rebounds) were named to the All-Classic Team for their play this weekend.
