#23 Women's Soccer Defeats Brooklyn at Home

Violets Improve to 7-1-2

The New York University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Brooklyn College on Tuesday, October 4, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU, ranked #23 in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, improved to 7-1-2 on the season, while Brooklyn is now 4-4-1.

Marquel Love scored the Violets' lone first-half goal 17:48 into the game when she took a pass from Teressa Fazio and beat the Bulldogs' goalkeeper.

NYU added three goals during a nine-minute span in the second half. Fazio doubled the lead when she headed in a perfect corner kick from Alex Benedict at 78:11. Benedict continued the scoring less than five minutes later and Julie Glover made it 4-0 when she connected on a corner kick from Fazio at 86:39.

Violets' goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg did not need to make a save in the win as NYU controlled the ball for the majority of the game and did not allow Brooklyn to take a shot.

"I thought we applied great pressure throughout the game," said NYU Head Coach Michele Canning. "We were dangerous offensively and found ways to score."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Fazio's four-point game was her fifth multi-point game of the season.

- Benedict tallied three points to increase her season total to 13. The rookie also recorded a game-high five shots on the night.

- NYU's 25 shots were its second most of the season.

The Violets will be back in action on Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 am when they host University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Carnegie Mellon University.
