The New York University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory against Stockton University on Thursday evening, October 20, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
NYU improved to 8-3-3 on the season, while the Osprey's record now stands at 9-6-2.
"We feel good about getting another non-conference win under our belt," said Head Coach
Michele Canning. "It was good to get back on the scoreboard."
Marquel Love scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute. The junior took the ball from about 15 yards outside of the box and dribbled it forward before beating the Stockton goalkeeper. It was her fourth goal of the season.
NYU dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Ospreys 9-0. The Violets continued that into the second half and had a few opportunities before Love found the back of the net. NYU finished the contest with a 15-2 advantage in shots, including 5-1 in shots on goal.
Cassie Steinberg made one save to record the shutout for the Violets. The senior captain has earned the decision in all 14 NYU games this season and her record stands at 8-3-3.
The Violets return to action on Monday, October 24, when they travel to Hackettstown, NJ, to take on Centenary College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
