Women's Volleyball Concludes UAA Regular Season Play with Win

Violets Top Brandeis for first Association Win of 2016

The New York University women's volleyball team concluded University Athletic Association (UAA) regular-,season play at the UAA Round Robin #2 hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, on Sunday, October 16. NYU dropped its first match of the day to Washington University in St. Louis, before battling back to beat the host Judges in its finale.

The Violets finished the UAA regular season with a 1-6 record in Association play and will be the #7 seed at the UAA Championship, which will be hosted by Washington on November 4 and 5. NYU will take on second-seeded Emory in the quarterfinals.

Against Washington the Violets fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17. NYU bounced back, however, to defeat Brandeis in four sets. The Violets set the tone early, defeating the Judges 25-21 and 25-16 in the first two frames. Brandeis took the third set 25-23, but NYU clinched the victory with a 25-22 win in the fourth and final set.

Highlights vs. WashU:

- Annie Singh recorded six kills to lead the Violets, while Sabrina Krebs and Caroline Rapp each chipped in with five.

- Katie Goyette led the squad in assists with 18.

- Grace Napolitano tallied a team-best 11 digs.

Highlights vs. Brandeis:

- Caroline Rapp and Gretchen Cash each finished with a match-best 13 kills.

- Goyette once again led the Violets in assists, this time recording 39.

- Cash, Rayne Ellis and Kelsey Kraetz each finished with four blocks to lead NYU up front.

The Violets return to action on Wednesday, October 19, when they host Stevens Institute of Technology. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
