The New York University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Stevens Institute of Technology at NYU's Brooklyn Athletic Facility on Wednesday, October 19, in Brooklyn, NY.
Despite leading in all three sets, the Violets ultimately were defeated by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-16.
The Violets (14-11) took a 6-2 lead in the first set, but the Ducks (24-4) stormed back and went ahead 17-12. NYU responded with a 7-2 run and tied the game at 19-19.
However, Stevens Tech scored the next three points and held the lead for the rest of the opening set.
NYU again got off to a quick start in the second set, rushing out to a 9-5 advantage. The Ducks managed to tie the score at 10-10, but the Violets went on to reclaim the lead by scoring the next two points. Stevens then re-tied the game at 12-12.
Again NYU went up by two, and again Stevens Tech came back to tie the score. The set was again knotted, this time at 18-18, when the Ducks produced a 6-0 run and went on to the second-set victory.
In the final set, the Violets continued their pattern of taking an early lead, this time getting out to a 5-3 advantage. NYU was still up 8-7, but Stevens Tech scored the next four points and never relinquished the lead.
"I think overall we played well," said Head Coach
Jolie Ward. "We anticipated a tough match against Stevens, but just didn't do our part."

Katie Goyette's 16 assists paced the Violets.
"I think we fought hard tonight," Ward explained. "We just need to be a little bit more consistent."
The Violets return to action this Friday, October 21, when they face Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
