Women's Soccer Ties Case Western In UAA Opener

Steinberg Breaks NYU Shutouts Record

The New York University women's soccer team tied Case Western Reserve University 0-0 on Saturday, October 1, at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, OH.

The home team controlled the first half, forcing two saves from NYU goalie Cassie Steinberg, but the game remained deadlocked.

In the second half, the Violets picked up the pace, firing four shots on target and outshooting their University Athletic Association (UAA) foes 6-3. The Spartans held strong as the game remained scoreless through regulation.

Over the two 10-minute overtime periods, NYU continued the barrage on goal with Isabelle Turner firing two out of the Violets' five shots and forcing a CWRU save with five minutes remaining. However, neither team was able to break through as the match finished scoreless.

"I thought our effort and competitiveness was outstanding," said NYU Head Coach Michelle Canning. "We came up a little short on the execution of our finishing."

BTW...

- The shutout was the 28th of Steinberg's career in purple & white, establishing a new school record.

- Turner led all players with three shots and two shots on goal.

- NYU had a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks.

- Olivia Braender-Carr and Charlotte Herbertz each recorded two shots with one on target.

- The Violets outshot CWRU 13-7, with a 5-2 advantage in shots on target.

The Violets return to action on Tuesday, October 4, when they take on Brooklyn College at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, at 7:30 PM.
