Women's Soccer Picks up 2-0 Victory vs. Bard

Violets Improve to 5-1

The New York University women's soccer team defeated Bard College 2-0 on Saturday evening, September 19, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (5-1) scored in the waning seconds of the first half to kickoff the offense for the night. Olivia Braender-Carr took a nice pass from Megan Carver to split the Bard (3-2-1) defense with 49 seconds left in the half. Braender-Carr then broke free for the breakaway to beat the Raptors' keeper to the lower-left corner.

"I think it was really important to get the goal at the end of the half because we were really pressuring them and getting good opportunities and wanted to go in with the lead," said NYU Head Coach Michele Canning.

Then, in a mostly-scoreless second half, Carver began an offensive rush once more. The rookie midfielder started a give-and-go opportunity with teammate Jess Wong, who capitalized for the Violets' second and final score of the game in the 88th minute.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Maddy Clappin and Melissa Menta, along with Wong, led NYU with two shots on goal.

- Carver's two assists were the first of her collegiate career.

"Megan's strength is to stay composed on the field and have good vision, so we really needed her to be able to get possession of the ball and set up opportunities for our forwards," continued Canning.

- Cassie Steinberg posted her fourth shutout of the season. Her 16 career shutouts are second all-time at NYU.

The Violets will return to action when they travel to Mahwah, NJ, for a scheduled 4:00 pm match at Ramapo College on Wednesday, September 23.
