Softball Drops a Pair of Saturday UAA Contests

Violets Will Complete Association Play on Sunday

The New York University softball team droppped a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship contests to two top-25 teams (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) on Saturday, March 14, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets (0-13, 0-9 UAA) began the day with an 8-3 loss to #19 University of Rochester (7-4, 5-3), followed by an 11-4 defeat at the hands of #23 Washington University-St. Louis.

In the first game, the Yellowjackets scored three runs on a home run off of NYU starter Natalie Evans in the bottom of the first. The freshman hurler went 1.2 innings in the loss. Rochester scored two more runs to take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second before Jaqueline Tremblay replaced Evans in the circle for the Violets.

Trailing 7-0 in the top of the fourth, NYU put a three-spot up on the Yellowjackets via RBIs from Tremblay, Marisa Bella and Colby Tarsitano. Rochester ended the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Against the Bears, NYU began with three runs in the bottom of the first and held that lead until Washington's half of the fourth. The Bears, trailing 3-1, put up three runs in the top of the frame to take the lead 4-2. Washington would not relinquish that advantage for the remainder of the contest.

The Violets did get another run across in the bottom of the fifth via a Kahala Bonsignore RBI single, which cut Washington's lead to 6-4 at the time. Sage Scheiwiller started for NYU and pitched 3.0 innings in the loss, allowing four runs (one earned).

- Molly Webber, Val Schwein and Scheiwller scored runs against Rochester. Scheiwller also drew three walks against the Yellowjackets.

- Rachel Fulton was 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base against Washington.

- Bonsignore was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI vs. the Bears.
