New York University's softball team dropped its first two games at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Tuesday, March 10, at the Seminole County Softball Complex in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets (0-6, 0-2 UAA) were first defeated 14-2 by #16 Emory University (10-0, 1-0 UAA), before falling 9-3 to Brandeis University (4-1, 1-1 UAA).
The pair of games were NYU's first-ever Association contests.
In game one, the Violets fell behind 12-0, but rallied to score two runs in the top of the fourth to cut into Emory's lead.
Val Schwein was responsible for the squad's first-ever UAA RBI as the sophomore catcher singled home classmate
Rachel Fulton.
Kahala Bonsignore kept the rally going with an RBI single to left field to plate
Sage Scheiwiller.
Jacqueline Tremblay started the first game and struck out two Eagles' batters before being relieved by Scheiwiller, who also struck out two.
In game two, Brandeis scored the contest's first four runs in the top of the third before NYU answered with a run in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to cut the Judges' lead in half.
Caitlin Ryan reached on a fielder's choice to score Scheiwiller for the Violets' first run. Schwein then picked up her second RBI in as many games an inning later on a double to left center.
The Judges would increase their lead to 9-2 before Schwein tallied another RBI in the bottom of the seventh on a single down the left field line.
Scheiwiller started against Brandeis and pitched 6.1 innings, striking out one.
Natalie Evans relieved Scheiwiller on the mound, recording two outs including her first-career strikeout.
NYU will take the field again tomorrow for another doubleheader. The Violets face the University of Rochester at 10:00 am before squaring off against Washington University-St. Louis at 1:00 pm. Both games will take place at the Seminole County Softball Complex in Altamonte Springs, FL.
