Women's Volleyball Drops Two at UAA Championship

Violets Fall to Washington and Rochester



The New York University women's volleyball team dropped two matches on day one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, which is being hosted by the University of Rochester on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, in Rochester, NY. 

The Violets (15-18) began with a 3-0 loss (25-12, 25-18, 25-9) to Washington University-St. Louis (30-2), who is ranked #3 in the most recent America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.

Shleby King led NYU in kills, totaling six for the match.

NYU's second match of the day was a 3-1 loss (15-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15) to the University of Rochester (16-16).

Nicole Frias kept NYU in the game, totaling 11 kills and two blocks.

Daryl Mitchell notched 30 assists for the contest.

"Today's matches were tough," Head Coach Jolie Ward said. "There's still more volleyball to be played tomorrow and we have the ability to finish the tournament on a positive note."

MATCH ONE HIGHLIGHTS:

- Patricia Stirb finished the contest with five kills and one block.

- Brooke Tannahill notched eight digs and one assist.

MATH TWO HIGHLIGHTS:

- Tannahill finished with 17 digs.

- Rayne Ellis totaled five kills and 3.5 blocks.

- Stephanie Mao notched 11 digs.

The Violets are back in action for day two of the UAA Championship on Saturday, November 7, taking on Brandeis University at 10:00 am.
