Women's Volleyball Defeats Brandeis at UAA Champ

Violets Beat Brandeis in Four Sets



The New York University women's volleyball team won its final match of the 2015 season, defeating Brandeis University at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, November 7, at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.

The Violets (16-18) ended their campaign on a high note with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-12) win over the the Judges (5-27).

After dropping set one, NYU dominated the rest of the match. Led by Nicole Frias, who totaled eight kills and one block, NYU  breezed through the final three sets.

"Frias had an amazing wekend. She helped lead the team as a captain and a player," Head Coach Jolie Ward said. "I'm very proud of the team's accomplishments and growth over the season, and I'm looking forward to the future of this young team."

The win earned the Violets a seventh-place tournament finish at the Championship, while the Judges settled for eighth place.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

- Rayne Ellis finished the contest with eight kills.

- Daryl Mitchell notched 32 assists and 11 digs.

- Annie Singh totaled eight kills.

"This season was a learning experience for the team, and as the only senior I knew we would be looking toward the future," Frias said. "I took on a certain role, and I'm happy we ended the season with the win. I learned a lot in my four years here, and I know the program is in great shape going forward."

This match marked the conclusion of the Violets' 2015 season.
