New York University's women's swimming & diving team defeated its three opponents at the University of Rochester Invitational, which was held on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24, at the Speegle-Wilbraham Center in Rochester, NY.

The Violets finished ahead of Brandeis University 313-47, Canisius College 278-90 and host Rochester 260-110.

Junior Nia Sorgente won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 243.95 after placing fifth in the one-meter competition on day one. Sophomore Austin Campitelli finished the three-meter competition in second place (239.40).

"This was a great weekend for the girls," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "This meet was a good indication of what we need to continue to work on as we move forward."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Isabelle Kitze took first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.52), won the 100-yard butterfly (59.49) and anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:37.56). The other relay team members were freshman Noel Leung, freshman May Li and junior captian Elise Gibbs.

- Li also won the 100-yard backstroke (58.45), placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.96) and participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:48.07).

- Freshman Haley Wen took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.42.

"I was happy to see the team set up and race well this early in the season," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I think we are in a good place and set up well to swim fast in December."

The squad will host the NYU Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
