The New York University women's soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime to the University of Chicago in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game on Sunday, October 18, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The winning goal was scored by the Maroons' Jenna McKinney with 7:43 remaining (1:02.17) in the second overtime period. The winning goal was initiated on a free kick by Mia Calamari just past midfield. McKinney collected the ball, turned and shot it past NYU goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg.
The Violets (9-4, 1-3 UAA) opened the scoring early in the contest.
Megan Carver notched her third goal of the season after receiving a pass from
Lexi Clarke in the box and putting a shot past Chicago goalkeeper Mik Piper at 13:25.
Chicago (10-4, 3-1 UAA) tied the score at the 27:22 mark when Kaitlin Price put a header past Steinberg off a corner kick taken by Calamari.
HIGHLIGHTS:-
Melissa Menta recorded a team-high three shots for the Violets, who were outshot 26-12 overall and 13-6 in shots on goal.
- Steinberg finished with 11 saves.
- NYU had a 6-3 advantage in corner kick.
The Violets return to the pitch on Thursday, October 22, when they host St. Joseph's College-Long Island at 7:00 pm at Gaelic Park.
