The New York University men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Chicago 3-0 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game on Sunday, October 18, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.The Violets (4-10, 0-4 UAA) and Maroons (8-4-2, 1-2-1) were scoreless through the first half as NYU goalkeeper
Lucas Doucette set aside eight shots over the first 45 minutes.
However, Chicago broke the deadlock at 50:02 as Max Lopez scored off an assist from Matthew Koh.
Despite putting six shots on net in the second half, the Violets were constantly turned aside by Maroons' keeper Hill Bonin.
The frustration culminated when Chicago scored twice within three minutes late in the period. Peter Boxley scored following a cross form Koh down the right side at 85:19, followed by Jorge Bilbao capping the scoring on a shot from 30-yards out to the top-left corner following a pass from Christoffer Mathis at 87:47.
"The final score did not display a just result for the match," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "Our guys played well and with lots of intensity. Despite the outcome, I'm proud of the way we played."
HIGHLIGHTS:- Doucette finished with 11 saves and even attempted a shot on goal in the second half on a free kick.
- Tristan Medios-Simon took a game-high six shots for NYU, though the Violets were outshot 21-15 overall.
- Alexander Dano recorded two shots on goal for NYU.
The Violets return to action on Friday, October 23, when they play at Brooklyn College beginning at 6:00 pm.
