Women's Volleyball Defeats Stevens Tech

Violet Defeat Ducks 3-1

The New York University women's volleyball team defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks in four sets on Wednesday, October 14, in Hoboken, NJ.

The Violets (10-10) dropped the first set 25-21 to Stevens (13-10), but rebounded to win the next three (25-22, 25-20, 25-17) and secure the match. The victory snapped a three-match losing streak for NYU, which hadn't played since October 4.

After dropping the first set and falling behind early in the second, the Violets used a 6-0 streak to take an 8-4 lead and never trailed again in evening the match.

In the third set, the Violets again used a 6-0 streak (this time after trailing 13-10) to take the lead for good.

In the fourth and final set, NYU scored the first five points en route to the convincing victory.

Patricia Stirb was a main reason for the Violets' comeback, totalling a match-high five blocks.

"It was great to see Stirb step up significantly as a leader this match," said Head Coach Jolie Ward.

Daryl Mitchell also helped secured the win for the Violets, finishing the contest with 35 assists.

"This was definitely a morale-boosting win that couldn't have had better timing going into this weekend's UAA Round Robin #2," Ward said.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

- Shelby King finished with 11 kills and 12 digs.

- Brooke Tannahill notched 23 digs.

- Nicole Frias totalled four blocks.

The Violets are back in action this weekend, October 17-18, at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 in Cleveland, OH.
