Women's Swimming & Diving To Compete Saturday

Violets Host Division I Iona College

The New York University women's swimming & diving team will compete against Iona College on Saturday, January 24, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF). The meet with Iona, which will also be NYU's Family/Senior Day, is set to begin with diving events at 11:30 am followed by swimming at 1:00 pm.

The Violets are coming off of an impressive victory over Springfield College on Saturday, January 17. Austin Campitelli, who was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Diver of the Week, helped lead the team to the 187-108 win by sweeping both the one-meter (275.25 points) and three-meter (267.95) events.

Swimmers Emily Doerner and Isabelle Kitze also contributed to the team victory. Doerner placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.73), the 100-yard butterfly (59.33) and was a member of two first-place relays -- 400-yard medley relay (4:02.70) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.93). Kitze joined Doerner on the 400-yard medley relay, while placing first individually in the 100-yard freestyle (55.22) and 200-yard freestyle (1:57.68).

The 7-0 Violets, #5 in the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) rankings, will be putting their undefeated record on the line Saturday. NYU will face the Gaels for the first time in team history. In their only contest against a Division I school this year, the Violets defeated Canisius College 255-113 at the University of Rochester Invitational on October 25.

Prior to Saturday's event, two graduating seniors, Doerner and Kate Donnelly, will be honored.

There will be a live webcast of the meet.

Results and recaps of the meet will be available at gonyuathletics.com.
