New York University's women's swimming & diving team finished first at the University of Rochester Invitational, which was held on Friday and Saturday, October 24-25, in Rochester, NY.

The Violets defeated University Athletic Association (UAA) rivlas Brandeis University (311-49) and host Rochester (246.5-123.5), as well as Division I Canisius College (255-113).

Sophomore divers Ashlie Pankonin and Nia Sorgente placed first (252.25) and second (235.50) in the one-meter competition, respectively.

"Our girls were awesome today," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "They were competing against an All-American and they swept the event. You can't ask for more than that."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior co-captain Emily Doerner finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.01) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.32).

- Freshman Rachel Munger won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.12) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.83).

- Sophomore co-captain Michelle Kierencew recorded a winning time of 4:45.77 in the 400-yard individual medley.

"I think we swam very well for an early season, two-day meet," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We still have a lot of hard training ahead of us, but I think we have gotten off to a great start and I am looking forward to seeing how we swim when we rest."

The Violets will host their next competition against Vassar College at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan on Saturday, November 1, beginning at 1:00 pm.
