Results New York University's women's swimming and diving team won its dual meet against SUNY Cortland, which the Violets hosted on Saturday, October 11, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan. The Violets defeated the Red Dragons 198-94 in their season opener.

Emily Doerner, a strong contributor over her past three seasons, won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.75), and participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:48.76) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.89) teams.
"Overall we swam really well today," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "It was a great way to start out the season. But, there's a long way to go. Hopefully, we can just keep getting better."
HIGHLIGHTS: - Diver
Nia Sorgente was victorious in the three-meter competition (266.63) and placed third in the one-meter competition (237.30).
"It was a great start for the divers. We competed against a national qualifier and All-American today and we more than held our ground," said Diving Coach
Scott Donie. "We still have a lot of work to do. But, we are exactly where we need to be for this time of the year."

Lexi Faunce, in her collegiate debut, won the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.86) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:45.22).

Elise Gibbs won the 100-yard freestyle (55.30) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.03).

Michelle Kierencew finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.18) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.68)
The squad will next compete in the University of Rochester Invitational on Friday and Saturday, October 24-25, in Rochester, NY.
