The New York University women's volleyball team begins its quest for a first-ever University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship this Friday, November 8, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. The Violets, seeded #4 in the eight-team tournament, will face #5 Carnegie Mellon University in the opening round.
First serve is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
The Violets (25-6, 4-3) faced Carnegie (23-8, 4-3) for the first time when the two teams met at UAA Round Robin #1 back on October 5. NYU recorded a
3-0 sweep.
"We are anticipating a massive battle in our first match," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward.
Depending on the outcome of Friday's match, NYU would face either top-seeded University of Chicago (23-10, 6-1) or #8 University of Rochester (8-25, 0-7) as its next opponent.
The Violets will be competing in its first UAA Championship since 2011, as the untimely arrival of Hurricane Sandy last year forced the squad's one-year hiatus. To claim its first-ever UAA Championship, however, NYU will have to overcome some stiff competition. In the
most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll, defending UAA Champion Emory University (#6), University of Washington in St. Louis (#8) and Chicago (#19) are all ranked.
"Our team is prepared and eager to face-off again against UAA competition," Ward said.
The championship match will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, while all other consolation matches are scheduled for 10:00 am the same day. A link to the full schedule, along with standings, can be found
