The New York University men's basketball team earned the victory in its season-opener, an 85-68 win over Drew University in the first round of the 2013 NYU Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon, November 16, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Three Violets scored in double figures on the afternoon, led by sophomore forwards Evan Kupferberg and Costis Gontikas. Each second-year frontcourt player posted 19 points.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Kupferberg added 10 rebounds for his first-career double-double, while Gontikas pulled down nine.

- Senior co-captain, guard Ryan Tana, dropped in 13 points while dishing out five assists.

- Sophomore forward Patrick Burns turned in a good performance, as well, collecting 10 rebounds in addition to nine points.

- In his first career start, sophomore point guard Max Ralby pulled down eight boards, had a game-high six assists and scored eight points.

- The Violets dressed 14  players, and each one saw time on the court against the Rangers.

"We're very pleased that we got contributions deep into our bench," said Head Coach Joe Nesci. "We played really hard on the defensive end of the floor and rebounded the ball well. I just thought we looked like a solid, experienced team and it was a great overall effort today."

NYU will be back on the court Sunday, November 17, at 3:00 p.m. for the Tip-Off Championship Game against Morrisville State College.
