Women's Volleyball Splits Again at UAA Round Robin #2

Violets Defeat Brandeis and Fall to Washington

The New York University women's volleyball team (20-4, 3-3) capped off the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 by splitting another day of action. NYU fell to #11 Washington University of St. Louis (21-5, 5-1) before topping Brandies University (21-15, 1-9).

NYU lost to the Bears in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 and then defeated the Judges in four sets by scores of 25-19, 25-10, 24-26, 25-7.
 
The Violets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set against Washington, but dropped the next nine points. The team held an even bigger lead in the second set, as NYU led 11-2. However, Washington won nine of the last 10 points to take the set 25-22. The third set was controlled by the Bears from start to finish as they went on to a 25-14 victory.
 
NYU found itself in a 17-15 hole to start the match against the Judges. but went on to take 10 of the next 12 points and win the set. The squad also faced a 5-3 deficit in the second before winning the next five points in a row and taking the set. After losing a nail-bitter in the third, the Violets put it away with a dominant fourth-set performance.   
 
NYU vs. Washington Highlights:

- Alexandria Mao led the team with eight kills to go along with seven digs
 
- MaTia Hughes had a match-high 14 digs
 
- Emily Moore led all players with 25 assists
 
- Nicole Frias tallied four kills and two blocks
 
NYU vs. Brandies Highlights:
 
- Allie Williams dominated with a career-best 18 kills
 
- Mao was solid on both sides of the ball with 11 kills and nine digs
 
- Katie Robinson and Frias each knocked down eight kills
 
- Moore led the way with 44 assists
 
The next match for the Violets will be on Thursday, October 24, when Violet Nation presents Tear it Up! First serve against NYU-Poly is set for 7:00pm.
