Box Score
The New York University women's volleyball team finished the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 on a high note with a win against Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday, September 30. The Violets (12-7, 1-2) topped the Tartans (10-12, 0-3) in four sets (18-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-18).
NYU played well throughout the weekend and its efforts were finally rewarded with a win. After dropping the first set, Head Coach
Jolie Ward made a few substitutions that supplied the team with the spark it needed. It was a combination of veterans and newcomers that led to the victory.
Highlights
-
Alexandria Mao continued to dazzle on both sides of the ball with 16 kills and 13 digs.
- Freshman
Drew Kohl took full advantage of her increased playing time. Kohl recorded her first ever double-double with career highs in kills (11) and digs (15).
-
Hope Bogle had the team's other double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.
-
Kaylee Schanda recorded a career-high 33 digs, tied for the third-most in a match in school history in the rally-scoring era. That number gave her a total of 83 digs in the three matches this weekend.
"Contributions by all team members led to a hard-fought win," said Ward. "Outstanding performances by Mao, Schanda, Kohl, and
Alexis Schwartz, mixed in with incredible team blocking, led the charge the rest of the way."
The Violets now get a much-deserved 10-day break before they take on cross-river rival Stevens Institute of Technology at home on Wednesday, October 10, at 6:30 pm. The match is the first Tear It Up! contest of 2012-13.
