The NYU women's volleyball team swept Brandeis University 3-0 and outlasted Case Western Reserve University 3-2 on the second day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin 2 at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Sunday.

The Violets (22-7, 4-3 UAA) climbed to 3-1 for the weekend and will be seeded #4 when the UAA Championship is held at the University of Chicago on November 6-7,

NYU trailed only once against Brandeis (13-11, 1-6 UAA) in the entire match, falling behind 1-0 after the first point of the first set. After that, it was all Violets: 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

Kendyl Dunn led the Violets with match highs of 14 kills and six blocks. Natalie Fernandez added nine kills, while Elizabeth Dick added seven blocks 13 digs.

Alexis Schwartz led NYU with 14 digs, while Mina Baban contributed a match-high 24 set assists.

Paige Blasco led the Judges with eight kills and 14 digs.

The story was much different against Case Western (18-6, 3-4 UAA), as the team battled throughout before NYU pulled out the five-set victory (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-8).

In the fifth set, the teams were deadlocked at 8-8 when a kill by Kolby Warren (she had nine in the match) ignited a match-ending 7-0 streak for the Violets.

"It was good to finally get a win over Case," said NYU head coach Ed Caesar, whose teams had lost three in a row to the Spartans. "They're a good team that's playing very well."

Dunn led both teams with a NYU-rally-scoring-era-record-tying 28 kills and Baban again led all with 48 set assists. Schwartz had a career- and team-high 30 digs, while both Dick (12 kills, 15 digs) and Fernandez (10 kills, 11 digs) contributed double- doubles.

The Spartans were led by Tricia McCutchan's 16 kills, Ashley Gan's 26 set assists and Andrea Lamont's 37 digs.

"Going 3-1 over the weekend was a good step for our young team," Caesar said. "This will help when we play in the UAA Championship next month."

The Violets will take a well-earned weekend off before returning for the New York State Regional Challenge at Ithaca College on October 31.
