NYU vs. Carnegie Mellon Box Score
The New York University women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Carnegie Mellon University and finished 1-1 on the first day of University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2, Saturday, Oct. 18, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
The Violets (18-8, 2-3 UAA) came out strong against the Tartans (15-12, 3-2 UAA), winning the first set 25-20 and taking a 10-2 lead in the second set. However, Carnegie Mellon rallied to take the second set 26-24, and held the momentum by winning sets three and four 25-21, 30-28.
Continuing her strong play on offense, NYU freshman
Elizabeth Dick recorded her second double-double of the day, and eighth of the season, with 16 kills and 16 digs.

Mina Baban fell one dig short of from a triple-double, recording 12 kills, 46 assists, and nine digs.
On defense, freshman
Britney Messier led the way for the second match in a row, putting up 18 digs.
For the Tartans, Aislinn McCloskey recorded a team-high 18 kills while Cameron Griffin led the team with 27 digs.
In its first match of the day, NYU survived a scare from the University of Rochester to pull out a 3-2 win.
NYU came out sluggish in the first set, falling 25-20 to the Yellowjackets (8-15, 0-4 UAA). The Violets rebounded to pull even in the second, winning 25-19. The two teams traded the next two with Rochester taking the third 25-23, and NYU running away in the fourth 25-18.
In the fifth set, the two teams traded points before a kill by Dick gave the Violets the lead 8-7 at the switch. With the score tied 10-10, NYU went on a match-ending 5-2 run with sophomore
Kasey Estes putting down the winning kill for the 15-12 victory.
On offense, Dick put down a career-high 18 kills while adding 17 digs for the double-double. Also recording a double-double was senior captain
Stacy Goto with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Also strong at the net was freshman
Kolby Warren, who put down 13 kills while hitting a team-high .321.
On defense, Messier recorded 20 or more digs for the fifth time in her career, putting up a match-high 25.
The Violets return to the court tomorrow at 11:30 am Sunday when they take on Washington University followed by Case Western Reserve University at 2:00 pm.
