The New York University mens soccer team defeated Case Western Reserve University 3-0 on Saturday, October 4, at Riverbank State Park in Manhattan. The match was the Violets first University Athletic Association contest of the season.

Scott Gwartz, one of the Violets co-captains, scored two goals in the victory. He first struck in the 30th minute off an assist from Jamie Pereira. After an unassisted goal from Jake Stolarski early in the second half, Gwartz launched a rocket into the upper corner of the net to cement the victory in the 78th minute.

The NYU defense held the Spartans to just three shots, and goalkeeper Adam Colunga was forced to make only one save in the game. Meanwhile, the Violets attacked the opposing net with 15 shots, nine of them on goal.

NYU's defense has allowed only two goals all season and has a goals against average of only 0.24. After giving up a first-half goal to William Paterson on September 17th, NYU has not allowed a goal over their last 466 minutes and 16 seconds.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, October 11, when they play at the University of Rochester at 2:30pm.
