TEAM BIO:
Kendo, or "the way of the sword," is the martial art of Japanese fencing. The goal of Kendo is to discipline character through the application of the principles of the sword. Kendo is physically and mentally challenging, and combines strong cultural values with sporting elements. It brings together cardio, precision, speed, and meditation. No experience is necessary to join the club, although taking the beginner recreational class is advised prior to joining.
The club is very popular and has a large mix of students, both male and female, Undergrad and Grad. The majority of club members have had no experience prior to joining the club, and have still gone on to win national championships.
NYU has won the prestigious Harvard Invitational Shoryuhai Intercollegiate Kendo Cup three years in a row. They are also the defending champions at most tournaments. Beginners and advanced students are strongly encouraged to participate in all competitions.
