New York University women's soccer player
Erin Ahmed has been selected to the USA D-3 Soccer All-Star Team and will travel to Brazil for competition against some of the world's best.
The USA D-3 Soccer Tour will run from May 19-28. Ahmed and the rest of the All-Stars will first travel to Orlando, FL, for orientation and practice for two days. The group will then fly to Sao Paulo, Brazil, for three contests on May 21-23. Finally, the teams will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for one more contest on May 26. The All-Stars will be competing against top U-22 club teams from the states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Aside from representing the U.S. on the pitch, the trip will also provide the group of All-Stars with educational, social and cultural outreach opportunities within the communities they visit. It will also allow them to visit schools and historical sites throughout Brazil.
“I'm very grateful for this opportunity and excited to represent NYU on the field,” said Ahmed. “I'm mostly excited just to meet the other players and to play in a country renowned for the sport. It will be great to experience Brazilian soccer culture firsthand, especially ahead of the 2014 World Cup. I can't think of a better way to start the summer.”
Ahmed, a Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) and Third All-East Region selection in 2011, is one of 13 players on the women's All-Star squad. The student-athletes represent 10 different universities and 11 different states, as well as one player from Sweden.
