Men’s Fencers Compete in First Day of NCAA Championship

Neslund in 10th Place After First Four Rounds

Roukas, Jamesson and Neslund combined for 20 victories through four rounds.

Three members of the New York University men's fencing team have completed their first day of competition at the NCAA Fencing Championships at Harvard University in Boston, MA, on Saturday, March 27.

Junior Byron Neslund, in his first NCAA Championships, had the most impact on the strip after the first day of competition in men's epee. With seven victories and a +3 indicator rating after the first four rounds, Neslund sits in 10th place heading into the final three rounds Sunday.

Senior Sam Roukas, in his fourth straight year at the NCAA Championships, has performed well so far in the men's sabre competition. In the first four rounds, Roukas posted six victories and is in 14th place out of 24 competitors.

In men's foil, NYU freshman Phil Jamesson is competing in his first NCAA Championships. He  recorded seven victories so far for the Violets and currently sits in 12th place.

Representing both the men's and women's teams for overall standings, the 20 combined victories on the first day of men's competition have NYU in 16th place overall.

The final three rounds of the men's competition begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by the gold medal bouts at 2 p.m. The men's individual awards will be presented immediately following the gold medal bouts, followed by the team awards.
