Three NYU Fencers Set to Compete at NCAA Championship

Roukas, Neslund, Jamesson Hope to Cap-Off Impressive Seasons

Roukas will compete in his fourth NCAAs while Neslund and Jamesson will make their debuts.

A trio of New York University fencers is set to compete at the 2010 NCAA Men's Fencing Championships at Harvard University's Gordon Track Center, March 27-28, in Boston, MA.

Senior Sam Roukas (sabre), junior Byron Neslund (epee) and freshman Phil Jamesson (foil) qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships after their outings at the NCAA Regionals at Brown University on March 14.

This will be Roukas' fourth time competing at the Championships. He finished 17th nationally in sabre in 2009, earned Second Team All-America honors with his seventh-place finish in 2008, and placed 22nd as a freshman.

Both Neslund and Jamesson will be making their NCAA Championship debuts. The duo had the top performances for the entire Violet team at the NCAA Regionals. Neslund placed fifth in the men's epee, while Jamesson was fifth in the men's foil competition.

At the NCAA Championships there will be a field of 24 fencers in each weapon.
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts.

After the round-robin, the top-four fencers fence semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winners fencing to determine first and second places and the losers being awarded a tie for third place.

Results will be posted on goNYUathletics.com as they become available throughout the two-day event. A free live webcast of the NCAA Fencing Championship is available here.
