Zach Maher, a senior co-captain of New York University's men's track & field team ran against a top field in the 5,000 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory Track & Field Center on Friday, Feb. 6.
Competing against runners from NCAA Division I powerhouses such as Duke University, Villanova University, the University of Tennessee, and Louisiana State University, Maher ran a career-best time of 14:46.02 in the event and finished in 14th place.
The winner of the race was Duke's Bo Waggoner, who crossed the finish line in a time of 14:16.37.

"Zach ran a tough race," said NYU head coach Nick McDonough. "It was a personal best for him in a field of very high quality."
Maher was the only Violet competing at the invitational.
Several other members of the team are expected to compete at the Haverford College Invitational on Sunday.
