On Saturday, Feb. 27, the New York University men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted competitors from around the nation at the NYU Last Chance Invitational.

Thirteen teams traveled to the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan, hoping to qualify swimmers and divers for select NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship events. The event featured no team scoring.

The biggest statistic of the meet was the number 13, as that was how many Palladium Natatorium records were broken. New marks were set in the men's 200 individual medley, the men's 100 butterfly,  the women's 400 individual medley, the women's 100 butterfly, the women's 50, 100, 200, and 500 freestyle, the women's 100 and 200 breaststroke, the women's 100 and 200 backstroke, and the women's 400 freestyle relay.

On the men's side, no new NYU competitors posted NCAA B-cut times. However, several swimmers improved upon previous standards.

Sophomore Bryson Naylor highlighted the men's field by setting a pool record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.83.

"It was nice to see some of our guys, even if they didn't post qualifying times, swim their best times of the season," said NYU men's head coach Bob Sorensen. "We still have several swimmers with NCAA-consideration times, which is excellent."

Senior Eric Pcholisnki, junior captain Andy King, junior diver Max Norris, Naylor, and sophomore James Bedell have all posted at least an NCAA B-cut time in an event.

On the women's side, freshman Tatum Gormley added a B-cut time and pool record of 57.55 in the 100 butterfly. Sophomore diver Kelly Dietz also topped an earlier qualifying score with a total of 442.88 points in the three-meter dive.

"Just a great meet to be a part of, as over a dozen pool records were broken today" added Sorensen. "This event is something special every year, and we will be excited to host the Last Chance Invitational again next year."

The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships will be hosted by Beloit College at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, from March 17-20.
