Joan Kanarkiewicz, a two-time NCAA qualifier for New York University during her rookie campaign, finished in 11th place in the finals of the 1,500-meter race at the USA Track & Field Junior National Championships in Eugene, OR.
After qualifying for the 1,500-meter final with a time of 4:37.48 on Saturday, Kanarkiewicz headed back to the track on Sunday. The race was held in windy conditions, and after staying within the middle of the pack most of the way, she was out-kicked down the stretch. The freshman again finished 11th, this time with a 4:38.64 outing.
"Joan ran tough in a race against quality competition," said NYU head coach Nick McDonough. "She had an outstanding freshman season for us and capped it off with a great performance here."
During her 2008-09 season at NYU, Kanarkiewicz competed at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship and at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
