Highlighted by a remarkable winter season, New York University finished 2008-09 in 65th place in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division III Standings.
The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was introduced in the 1993-94 athletic term for Division I, then expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA. With the combined men's and women's fencing team's 15th-place finish earned 45 more points. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams added 50 and 27.5, respectively. Five points from the wrestling team capped the Violets' 191.50 winter total.
The men's cross country team's 12th-place finish in the fall earned 54 points, the second highest of any NYU squad. The men's track and field team's spring season's five points brought the total to 250.5, landing NYU in 65th place out of the 310 Division III schools in the final standings.
