Whitner, Stoler named All-Americans
Men's Tennis Duo Honored by Intercollegiate Tennis Association
Whitner won the singles title at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.

Two members of the New York University men’s tennis team received honors this week as sophomore Alex Stoler and freshman Patrick Whitner were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III All-American Team for the 2008-09 season.

NYU’s last ITA All-American was Mikhail Gurevich, who received the honor in 2007.

On Oct. 5, 2008, Whitner defeated Mike Mattelson of Vassar College (6-4, 6-4) to win the singles title at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships held in Willingboro, NJ.

In the same tournament, Whitner teamed with Stoler to win the doubles title with an 8-4 victory over Vassar’s Greg Katz and Max Willner.

Based on their wins at the regional, the Violets' duo advanced to the ITA National Championships held on Oct. 16 in Mobile, AL.

A native of Bradenton, FL, Whitner made his collegiate debut in 2008-09 with an 11-5 record in singles competition and a 9-7 mark in doubles.

Stoler, of River Vale, NJ, finished the season with a 5-4 singles record and went 11-9 in doubles.
