Senior Jesse Schneider, a three-time cross country All-American, has added another accolade to his impressive resume.
Running in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Schneider finished in seventh place and claimed another All-America honor.
The Championships are being held at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta, OH, Thursday-Saturday, May 21-23.
Posting a time of 31:21.81 in the oppressive heat, Schneider earned his first All-American honor in track & field, as well as two points for the Violets in the team competition.
"Jesse ran a great race in tough conditions," said NYU head coach Nick McDonough. "It certainly wasn't optimal for a 10k race."
William Kaul of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the event with a time of 30:54.56.
Also running for NYU on Thursday was Matt Turlip in the preliminaries of the 1,500 meters. Placed in the second heat, the sophomore's time of 3:53.85 was good enough for seventh place overall. All eight runners in Turlip's heat qualified for the 12-man final, as the pack ran together needing only to post a faster time than 3:57.04.
"In his first-ever NCAA track & field appearance, Matt did exactly what he needed to do to make the final," McDonough explained. "Now he can get ready for Saturday."
