Zakaria Berkane joined New York University as a Facility Operations Manager in July 2023. He assists in overseeing the daily operations of the 404 Fitness athletic facility.
Before coming to NYU, Berkane worked as the athletic director of Mark Day School in San Rafael, CA. He also served as the director of the international basketball summer camp A Bucket and a Dream, headquartered in Algiers, Algeria.
Before his career in athletic management, Berkane played professional basketball for the Olympic Batna team in Batna, Algeria for six years. Competing in the ABC Super Division, he finished as a national finalist three years in a row. He also was a five-time national and state karate champion in Algeria.
A graduate of University of Biskra, Berkane earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Science and a Master of Science degree in Strength and Conditioning before continuing his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he obtained a second Master of Science in Sports Administration – Business.
A native of Batna, Algeria, Berkane resides in New York City.
