Matthew Devens has been a member of the New York University Department of Athletics as an Athletic Trainer since 2014. In May 2024, he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer. He works primarily with NYU’s women’s basketball team and the men’s and women’s golf teams, while providing support for the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams.

An active member of the New York running community, Devens has volunteered with the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation (NSAF) since 2007, serving as an Athletic Trainer and Medical Director for regional, national and international track & field events. His volunteering resume includes stints with the New York City Marathon and NYC Triathlon as a lifeguard.  

Devens earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2006 and received his Masters of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from Long Island University in 2009.  Devens is Board Certified (BOC) as an Athletic Trainer, NATA member and NYSATA member.

Devens started at Southern Connecticut State as an Athletic Trainer in 2007-08 and later joined the Brooklyn Aviators, a professional (FHL) hockey team from 2010-11.

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Health Administration at NYU Wagner, Devens spends summersat Jones Beach as a lifeguard. 

A native Long Islander originally from Bellmore, Devens resides in Merrick, NY, with his wife Daniella and daughters Makena and Oakley.
