Daniel F. Cerquera returned to New York University as an athletic trainer in January 2022 after serving in a part-time capacity during the 2107-18 academic year. He works primarily with the men’s and women’s fencing teams, the men’s basketball team and the baseball team.
Prior to rejoining the staff, Cerquera served as an athletic trainer at both the professional and collegiate levels. In 2015, he joined the Houston Astros at their International Rookie League affiliate in the Dominican Republic and then proceeded to work for the organization’s Single A affiliate for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Beginning in 2018, Cerquera served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn before his promotion to Head Athletic Trainer in 2022.
Cerquera earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Stony Brook University in 2013 and served in its athletics department as a student from 2011-13, working primarily with the football, women’s basketball, softball, and track & field teams.
Cerquera’s experience includes volunteer work at the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship, as well as at the 2013 and 2014 New York City Marathons.
Born in Bogota, Colombia, and raised in Queens, NY, Cerquera currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife Emma and dog Franklin.
