Mo Kearney Headshot 2022-23

Maurice Kearney

Maurice Kearney was hired as an assistant coach of New York University's men's basketball team in July 2022.

Kearney arrived at NYU after working in multiple capacities at SUNY Cortland since 2014. He was an assistant coach of the Red Dragons' men's basketball team from 2014-18 and served as Associate Head Coach from 2018-22. Kearney also worked as an admissions advisor at the University from 2015-20 and was promoted to Senior Admissions Advisor at the start of 2020.

Kearney assisted in all facets of the program while at Cortland, including recruiting, on-court instruction, scouting, budgeting, and compliance. After being promoted to Associate Head Coach, Kearney took on the role of recruiting coordinator and became heavily involved in player development and fundraising.

Within the Cortland Admissions Office, Kearney reviewed and processed freshmen applications in a database of 12,000 applicants and followed the school's criteria to make admissions decisions. As a senior admissions advisor, he also served as a liaison to the athletics department, led the Educational Opportunity Program, assisted with the marketing and communications of the office and managed over 100 partnerships with secondary schools and community organizations in the region.

A highlight of Kearney's time with the Red Dragons was his recruitment of Austin Grunder, who earned the program's first-ever conference and regional Rookie of the Year awards while being named All-America by the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) and D3hoops.com.

A member of the NABC and Basketball Coaches Association of New York since 2015, Kearney earned both of his degrees from Cortland, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 2015 and a Master's of Science in Health Education in 2019.

A native of Uniondale, NY, Kearney resides in Glen Cove, NY.
