Danté Milligan has completed two seasons as an assistant coach of the New York University men’s basketball team. His responsibilities include working with post players and assisting in recruiting, game preparation and on-floor coaching.

Last season, the Violets posted an 8-17 overall record and a 1-13 mark in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The team’s season-high five-game winning streak included the NYU Tip-Off Tournament title, which the Violets earned with an 86-82 overtime victory against Western New England University on November 24.

Individually, senior guard Ethan Feldman earned Second Team All-UAA honors and was selected Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Honorable Mention. Fellow senior forward Jimmy Martinelli was chosen Most Valuable Player of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament.

In Milligan’s first season at NYU, the Violets posted an 8-17 overall record and a 2-12 mark in the UAA. Forward Dom Cristiano earned Second Team All-UAA and All-Metropolitan accolades, as well as All-ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Honorable Mention. Both he and Martinelli received NYU Tip-Off All-Tournament honors.

Milligan entered NYU with a strong resume of both professional playing and coaching experience. He played seven years of professional basketball from 2008-15 for various teams in France, Israel and China. Additionally, Milligan had a three-year stint in the NBA D-League for the Springfield Armor (2010), Oklahoma City Blue (2011) and Canton Charge (2012).

Milligan’s coaching resume includes experience with Division I Saint Louis University (2016-18), where he served as a graduate assistant coach charged with scouting opponents and developing the guards and forwards.

Milligan was a two-year member of the University of Pittsburgh basketball team before transferring to the University of Massachusetts. At Pittsburgh, he was a member of the Panthers’ 2004 Big East Regular Season Championship and NCAA Sweet Sixteen team. At Massachusetts, Milligan played a key role in the school’s 2008 run to the NIT Finals and earned All-Tournament honors.

A 2008 Massachusetts graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management, Milligan went on to earn a master’s degree in student personnel administration from Saint Louis in 2018.
